Archaeology 101

With Cataclysm almost upon us and one of the main features is a new secondary profession. This is the first secondary profession added to the game since launch and rather than being on that will make money is one that will enhance your character with a few of the finds but more importantly provide some interesting back story.

So what is archaeology?

a Archaeology is a secondary profession which means everybody can learn it, which is cool. The general idea is that you collect fragments of historical items and store them in a journal.

Once you have all the fragments for an item you'll be able to study it and you'll get a reward which can be anything from BoA armor/weapons (sadly not ones that level with you) vanity pets, gadgets and even mounts. Some of the rewards are very good epic items (eg X), also when gathering these fragments you will gain XP until you're at level cap just like the other gathering professions.

Cataclysm Beta: Portals linking Darnassus to Exodar!!!

To avoid upsetting anyone all my beta information is going to be hidden from the main page, So if you want to have content spoiled you will need to click the "read more" link further down the page. The only clue will be from the title of the post but these will, I promise, always be vague enough to not give anything away.

My purpose of playing the beta is to try to break the game, I'm not doing any actual content that I am likely to run Evlyxx, or any of my alts through a kajillion times after the launch. I am here for exploration, looking at the older Azeroth content and to see where I need to go to be able to power level professions.

If you have any requests for places you'd like me to go or NPCs to visit drop me a line at evlyxx at evlyxx dot com or leave me a comment below.

The Backstory: A Raid Group of My Own

Having been boosted by Soul of the Fire through Molten Core and Onyxia I continued to leech from their kindness with runs through Zul'Gurub and Molten Core on their off-nights.

I was really enjoying the experience but felt like I was simply a passenger and started looking for a guild I could raid with. I was very happy in EZO where I was an officer, but despite large numbers very little interest in raiding so it seemed that the only option for raiding was to leave.

The Backstory: After The Dragon....

If you have been reading my blog for a while or been dedicated enough to go back in time you may remember or stumble across a post I made back in May 2010 about how I got started in raiding and I never finished the story so over the next few weeks I will make one of my posts one of my backstory.

After killing Onyxia (level 60) I was most definitely hooked but I knew my gear was not upto the challenge, with the exception of my recent haul (Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire & Halo of Transcendence), so I spent the next few days running ScholomanceStraholme, Blackrock Spire (Upper and Lower) hoping for any upgrades to my shabby green gear and hopefully some of the Vestments of the Devout. I did 2 instances a night and I remember bugging groups to do the Father Flame event in the hope that the Devout Mantle would drop, a few groups sighed and said no a few brave one relented reluctantly but them shoulders never dropped. I did get a few upgrades though so all was not wasted.

Duane - My typical guild mate.

I'd like to introduce to you, Duane, he is not a real person, he is merely a character I have created to represent "my guildmate" and as such he will appear in the blog every so often as the subject matter of stories I have to tell from my experiences past, present and future that relate to people I am, have been or will be sharing a guild tag with when I have funny stories to tell, so the real identity of "my guildmate" can be protected.

Duane is a strange fellow he is a player of every class on both factions. He plays casually and yet is a hard core raider. Please do not try to follow timelines or plot threads with Duane, there are too many contradictions in his life in and out of Warcraft. You have been warned!

The Backstory Shorts: Winterspring Frostsaber

Finally got round to completing the Wintersaber Trainers reputation. I am now the proud and happy owner of a Winterspring Frostsaber as shown in the pic above.

Apart from the mount I am really happy that I'll never have to return to Winterspring and do these quests again as I deliberately finished the "grind" and pushed it to 999/1000 exalted.

I now have 45 exalted factions and am now going to push on with my friends in Ravenholdt who I must cap out honoured with before starting the lockbox trial.

Preparing For Deathwing pt2

On December 7th, we will begin the charge to kill Deathwing, but before we even think about the ultimate goal of this expansion we need to consider what smaller steps we need to take.

Firstly you should review the 10 steps I mentioned in my post Preparing For Deathwing last week as at least 9 are still relevant. Now you've done them, lets look at the task and set out the rest of our gameplan.

Feeding the Rich and (In)Famous?

Ever get the feeling you have a celebrity stalker? Well following my last post, Preparing For Deathwing,  on October 28th a ratehr well known blog has made a post about the exact same thing entitled, Cataclysm preparation #1. Now I'm not saying that he is following my blog or copying my content but a more suspicious man may arrive at that conclusion should he be into conspiracy theories.
